Description This ca. 1920s German 7/8 carved back bass was owned by a jazz big band player, who actively played it from the mid-1930s through the early 1960s. It was maintained by Luthier John Chapin, who made the bridge. Upgrade features are the added bridge adjusters and a new ULSA Deluxe adjustable endpin with ebony collar and brass fittings. The hatpeg tuning machines are turn easily and cleanly. The machine plates are fancier than I usually see on a factory machine. The wood parts good quality and finished in a reddish oil varnish. Dimensions are: Top length 43 5/8″, Upper bout width 20 7/8″, Middle bout width 15″, Lower bout width 27 3/8″, Rib depth at tail 8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 1/8″, Rib depth at neck 6 7/8″, String length 42 3/8″. This is a fine sounding and playing bass that is particularly useful for playing traditional jazz. The discount price during the Spring Sale is $11,000 with cover.
