ZENITH SURF TV WATCH FROM THE 1970s

$69.97 $89.56
Description The famous Zenith Surf TV Rugged Beauty from Zenith As the 1960s turned into the 1970s, Zenith jumped in with bigger and more rugged looking watches. Amongst these was the famous so-called Surf TV watch. A watch that looked like a TV screen, and became a 1970s icon. This example has aged with charm, sporting an aged ‘tropical’ style dial, that seems to give a sunburst effect from the centre reaching out to the upper and lower sections of the original blue. Item description: A classic Zenith  Surf TV watch in stainless steel. Large TV screen style with blue sunray dial bearing a date at the typical 4/5 position. The dial has the   1970s Zenith logo, along with the matching crown. The back is in brushed stainless steel, and has the designation Surf Stainless Steel, along with the reference number. Automatic movement with a Zenith calibre 2562 PC. Case size: 35mm x 35mm excluding crown Condition report: Overall excellent towards near mint condition. Case in excellent condition free from unsightly scratches or other damage. Original dial with a nice patina. The glass clean, and free from any deep scratches. The watch is functioning, but the winder is stiff suggesting the watch needs a simple service with new oils. Background to Zenith: Watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot founded the Zenith company in 1865 at the age of 22, opening a workshop in Le Locle in the canton of Neuchâtel. Zenith has a long reputation for the quality and precision of their watches. It is one of the few Swiss watch manufacturers that still produce their own movements in-house. During World War II, Zenith were one of a group of Swiss companies, such as IWC, Longines etc given contracts by Germany to produce military watches for them. Zenith famously created the El Primero calibre, which was first released in 1969, and still produced today. This renowned movement was one of the first automatic chronograph movements and has a frequency of 36,000 alternations per hour (5 Hz). This high rate allows a resolution of 1⁄10 of a second and a potential for greater positional accuracy over the more common standard frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz) Special notes: n/a Provenance: n/a Ordering: [email protected] or telephone: 1694-781354   ZENITH SURF TV WATCH FROM 1970s | STUNNING TROPICAL DIAL
