Description Classic 1960s. Hamilton was commissioned in 1966 to make the prop watch for Stanley Kubrick’s “2001-A Space Odyssey” movie. Hamilton made a commemorative version of the watch in 1969, changing the name on the dial to the French spelling “Odyssee 2001” for copyright reasons. Particularly enjoyed as a so-called ‘drivers’ watch , as the watch case sets the dial at an angle, which is favourable for driving and checking the time. Only made in limited numbers, this has always been a challenging watch for the collector to find. Item description: Stainless steel case. Inset crown with Hamilton ‘H’ logo. The dial with brushed silver centre and charcoal finished outer border. The Hamilton name to upper centre, along with the ‘Automatic’ designation. To the lower centre, ‘Odyssee 2001’. A circular calendar hole at the 6.00 position. Silver metal hour markers. Reverse with a screw on locking back plate. The watch with a Hamilton automatic 694A movement. The watch retains a new rally style black leather strap with neat red hand stitching. The watch retains its scarce and original stainless steel Hamilton buckle. Case size: 38mm x 38mm Condition report: Case in excellent condition with a nice polished finish remaining (free from major scratches or other damage). Dial original.
